A German Pointer called Tiggie
A man’s best friend is his dog and I always enjoy making studies of them. I am particularly proud of the three very individual bronzes I have made of the Rt Hon Richard Astor’s gun dogs which sit handsomely on a dining room sideboard at his beautiful home in Berkshire.
In the Summer of 2008, I received a commission to make a life-size sculpture of a German Pointer called Tiggie. I did most of the work from life with my model by my side. I felt sure that Tiggie knew exactly what I was trying to achieve, for such was her intelligence, she would actually hold a pose for me. Every so often, we would take a break by walking around the garden or lying on the lawn in the sunshine. Then it was back to work and, for her, straight back into her pose – what a dog!
